Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival in Trenta
Your starting point for the Soča Valley Hike is the beautiful village of Trenta. Located in the Triglav National Park, it is the perfect gateway to your hiking adventure. Seize the first day and explore the incredible natural landscape surrounding it.
Day 2 - Soča River Spring and Zapotok Waterfall
Distance: 17.7 km
Elevation gain: 490 m
Descent: 490 m
Today’s highlight is the most iconic attraction of the Soča Valley, the Soča River spring. Soak in the sight of the turquoise waters and enjoy the wonderful untouched nature. Afterward, take the scenic route traversing the beautiful landscape toward the Zapotok Waterfall. It is a lesser-known attraction, perfect for those seeking pristine nature and solitude.
Day 3 - Trenta – Lepena
Distance: 16 km
Elevation gain: 150 m
Descent: 290 m
Make your way from Trenta to Lepena Valley, a popular choice among outdoor enthusiasts due to its incredible natural landscape. En route, make a detour to Šunik Water Grove (Šunikov vodni gaj) and explore its dense forests, natural pools, and mesmerizing waterfalls.
Day 4 - Lepena – Bovec
Distance: 11.5 km
Elevation gain: 150 m
Descent: 175 m
Today’s stage is relatively short, giving you plenty of time to soak in the views of the majestic mountain peaks as you journey from Lepena to Bovec. After a short climb, you’ll descend to the alpine town of Bovec. This small town is a favorite among adventure enthusiasts, and its abundant natural beauty and rich history attract nature and history lovers from all over the world.
Day 5 - Bovec
Enjoy your day in Bovec, popularly referred to as the “adventure capital of Slovenia”. Opt for a walk to Virje waterfall, which will enamor you with its turquoise waters, or have fun with numerous sports and adventure activities available, from kayaking to paragliding.
Day 6 - Bovec – Kobarid
Distance: 21.7 km
Elevation gain: 300 m
Descent: 530 m
From Bovec, head toward the picturesque historic town of Kobarid, located near the border with Italy. This trail features a mild ascent and plenty of opportunity to enjoy the scenic landscape and the sight of the emerald-green Soča River.
Day 7 - Kobarid – Tolmin
Distance: 17 km
Elevation gain: 190 m
Descent: 230 m
Conclude your adventure with a hike from Kobarid to Tolmin. This stage is rather dynamic, full of mild ascents and descents, and will reward you with incredible natural scenery. In Tolmin, located in the heart of Soča Valley, you can enjoy traditional Slovene architecture or, if you’re a history buff, explore the remnants of the World War I period.
