Itinerary

1

Day 1 - Kranjska Gora – Vršič

Distance: 9 km

Elevation gain: 720 m

Your Julian Alps Hike begins in the beautiful alpine town of Kranjska Gora. From your starting point, head toward the highest Slovenian mountain pass, the Vršič Pass. This hiking trail is moderately challenging but offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. Are you up for an additional challenge? Opt for a hike to Slemenova Špica, a popular peak in the Julian Alps that can be accessed from the Vršič Pass.

Day 2 - Vršič - Trenta

Distance: 10 km

Elevation gain: 110 m

Descent: 1020 m

From Vršič, trek toward Trenta, a beautiful alpine valley located in the heart of the Julian Alps. Soak in the abundance of its natural beauty, and don’t forget to make a stop at its most iconic highlight, the Soča River spring. Additionally, you can choose to visit the stunning Zapotok Waterfall, located about an hour of slow walking from the spring. As a lesser-known attraction, it is perfect for those seeking pristine nature and solitude.

Day 3 - Trenta - Bovec

Distance: 21 km

Elevation gain: 355 m

Descent: 530 m

Make your way to the Alpe Adria Trail. Today’s moderately challenging hike will take you from Trenta to the alpine town of Bovec, a favorite of outdoor and adventure lovers. We suggest you start early, so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful nature, making this stage a highly enjoyable experience.

Day 4 - Bovec – Kobarid

Distance: 21 km

Elevation gain: 440 m

Descent: 650 m

From Bovec, the Soča Valley trail will take you to Kobarid. This alpine town is rich in culture and history and is encircled by magnificent natural attractions. Enjoy the view of the crystal-clear waters of the Soča River and the mountain peaks as you hike toward your destination. This stage is quite dynamic, so prepare for an exciting day ahead.

Day 5 - Kobarid - Tolmin

Distance: 16.5 km

Elevation gain: 290 m

Descent: 330 m

Today’s hike takes around 4 to 5 hours to complete and is a relatively easy one. You’ll journey along the Soča River, so take the opportunity to stop often and enjoy the river’s astonishing beauty. Along this Soča Valley trail are many viewpoints, offering wonderful vistas of the valley and the natural scenery.

Day 6 - Tolmin - Bohinj

Distance: 9.6 km

Elevation gain: 300 m

Descent: 315 m

From Tolmin, head toward Most na Soči, a small village at the confluence of Soča and Idrijca rivers. There, take a train to Bohinjska Bistrica and spend the rest of the day hiking to Lake Bohinj, the largest natural lake in Slovenia. After arriving, enjoy the lake’s tranquil vibe and magnificent views of the surrounding mountain range.

Day 7 - Depart from Bohinj / Extra day: Bohinj – Pokljuka

Distance: 20 km

Elevation gain: 880 m

Descent: 150 m

Enjoy your last moments at the wonderful Lake Bohinj before departing, or, if you want to explore Slovenia’s natural beauty further, stay for another day and hike from Bohinj to Pokljuka. This alpine plateau is known for its dense pine forests, traditional mountain chalets, grazing cattle, and rich wildlife. This stage offers a perfect hike for those who seek peaceful natural environments.

Day 8 - Depart from Pokljuka / Extra day: Pokljuka – Bled

Distance: 21 km

Elevation gain: 130 m

Descent: 900 m

Conclude your alpine experience and depart from Pokljuka or stay an extra day. If you choose later, hike to one of Slovenia’s most iconic attractions, Lake Bled. This popular landmark is famous for its island with a church and the delicious Bled cream cake, which we highly recommend.

Day 9 - Depart from Bled

Enjoy your last moments at the wonderful Lake Bled before wrapping up this tour and heading home. Please let us know if you need any help with the return transfers.
